We'll Give You The Edge You Need

You're ready for a change...

So how's your resume working for you?

A recent poll showed that 79 percent of job seekers who wrote their own resume aren't happy with it. Experts say that actually fewer than 1 resume in 20 passes the "scan" test. You need a powerful resume to stand out in the crowd.

(And don't forget that you'll need a rock solid, "red flag"-free cover letter and LinkedIn Profile to get maximum impact.)

NOTE FOR JULY 8, 2014: SUMMER SPECIAL. All Resume + Cover Letter packages are on sale for 15% to 40% off for a limited time. See details below.

Dear Seattle Area Professional,

Many people can write a properly formatted resume or c.v. But few people can write powerful resumes that consistently get job interviews.

That's what I do very well. As your professional resume writer, I will work with you to ensure that your resume stands out from the crowd. Recruiters will see that you really are more qualified than the other 90% of the pack.

Hi... I'm Joseph Perez, CPRW. I am an Integral Career Coach specializing in writing resumes (a.k.a. curricula vitae or CVs) for clients throughout the United States and Canada. Through Seattle Resume Writer (Writing Wolf), I have helped clients write resumes for a decade. Today, my services are not just editorial but oriented to becoming partners in our clients' career development process. I meet with clients for in-person interviews in Capitol Hill whenever possible or over the telephone.

Check out Joe Perez's article "Why the Resume is an Endangered Species," to learn about the essential ingredients in an effective career marketing plan. Joe has been featured in a story by Randy Woods of The Seattle Times and been quoted by Monster.com's Resume Expert column for his expertise. In 2010, he appeared on King 5 TV in an interview with Jane McCarthy.

I am a writing professional and career strategist. I draw on many ideas, disciplines, and practices to inspire more holistic relationships to work, more conscious lives, and a better world. I am a nationally published author and have studied at Harvard University, the Divinity School at the University of Chicago, and hold a certificate in Integral Leadership from Pacific Integral/LIOS Graduate College of Saybrook University. As Principal of Writing Wolf, I have been featured on print, television, and online publications for my expertise.

I offer a process specially designed for clients serious about gaining self-awareness about their life and work, articulating a powerful and authentic personal brand, and co-creating an impressive suite of career marketing documents. I really get to know you so your career marketing documents are as individual and unique as you are while adhering to the best practices of career service professionals.

Many of my clients are very good writers. But they're smart enough to know that their resume is probably the most important document they'll ever write in their career, and they know the value added by getting an experienced resume specialist's perspective.

Make Your First Impression Count

Let me speak frankly.

It's more crucial then ever to invest wisely in your career. If you've never before felt the need to get professional resume help, then it's time to rethink your approach. What's worked in the past may not be enough in today's job climate.

It's time to "jump in" to the employment market with your very best, and there's no better investment than an exceptional resume.

Recruiters scan more resumes per job than before, and they can afford to be choosy. But there are always great opportunities out there... if only you can get past the "gatekeepers" and get a personal interview.

You only have one chance to make that critical first impression, and it's important to put your best foot forward.

A Lifetime of Knowledge

I've been committed to providing quality resume services since 2003, as demonstrated by my membership in the Professional Association of Resume Writers. I've earned the designation of Certified Professional Resume Writer, a credential you should definitely look for in choosing your writing partner.

But that's not the only reason to choose Seattle Resume Writer.

Few resume writers can honestly say that they're talented in both technical documentation and marketing communications. That's why my background really stands out. After developing my wordsmithing abilities as a liberal arts major at Harvard University, I worked in public relations and technical communications for over a decade before specializing in career documents.

"As a resume writer, Joseph's work is superlative. Resumes are as much a personal document as a professional one. In a sense, resumes tell a potential employer who you are, as well as what you have to offer that employer, in a very short space. Working with Joseph, I felt that he REALLY LISTENED to what I wanted and what I could offer, and was able to design a concise, well-written resume that accurately reflects who I am and what I can offer." -- K.P., a Non-Profit Program Manager, Educator

I left a career as a Technical Writer because I enjoyed the satisfaction of seeing my work make an immediate difference in people's lives. As the Principal of Seattle Resume Writer, I have written hundreds of resumes service since 2003. My unemployed clients get more interviews, my underemployed clients re-enter the workforce, and my employed clients get pay raises.

Businesses have long known the importance of establishing a strong brand and hiring professional advertising agencies and public relations firms to communicate with their customers. Now individuals are discovering the value of having a personal advertising agency working on their behalf. If you're shy, I help you to toot your own horn. If you're overreaching, I help you to replace hype with fact-laden, employer-oriented resumes.

What Makes a Resume Great

My goal is that the money you spend on your resume will be the best money you spend during your whole job search. And I'll also aim to inspire you to see your own career history in a more objective light ... giving you more confidence in your abilities and more clarity about your future.

Here's what I can do for you.

I will invite you to engage one-on-one with me to better understand your distinctive career brand. The resumes I write emerge out of a holistic process of reflection on your values and how they translate into a long-term vision of a fulfilling career. Through an (optional) questionnaire and one or more interviews/career coaching sessions, you will emerge with an ability to articulate your best and highest value proposition to employers or clients.

You will know strategies for using a portfolio of career branding documents and social media to convey your value confidently. And you will become more clear on your short-term, intermediate, and long-term career objectives ... so you will have the self-knowledge necessary to deftly navigate your job search.

Then I'll put on my writing cap and get to work. I don't just tinker with a resume; I overhaul it. I'll break down your design and use one of my proprietary formats with a proven track record of impressing recruiters. I'll build on all the good copy you've already written and I'll make it better if at all possible. I'll employ every resume writing tip you're already doing well, and I may just pull a trick out of my sleeve that you've never seen before.

"I had an interview on Friday from a company that initially met with me last summer and decided not to hire me, when I asked them why they brought me back they said my resume 'told my professional story in a more thorough fashion'. The more informative resume allowed them to ask questions that got deeper into my expertise and strengths, rather than just trying to establish if I was qualified or not. Joe is the guy who managed to take my steaming pile of bat guano (which I called a resume) and turn it into a true Curriculum Vitae." -- K.B., Marketing Director

I'll start by correcting spelling, punctuation, and typographical errors, maximizing readability, editing for parallelism, reducing passive voice, standardizing numbers and abbreviations, ensuring proper use of jargon and slang, and more.

I'll optimize the organizational structure of your resume, and I'll reformat it using a new design template. I will also eliminate "red flags" that attract negative attention; enhance readability and persuasiveness, ensuring that data is given an adequate context; and make sure that style and diction clearly communicate employer-oriented benefits.

I strive to avoid boilerplate; I find a tone fitting your personality and your unique strengths. Essentially, I am your ghostwriter. I collaborate with you to bring out the best in your own style.

This isn't merely a resume typesetting service. Making your resume look "pretty" isn't the point. Making your resume persuasive and effective is.

This isn't merely a resume editing servixe. My focus is on building your career management savvy, defining a personal branding plan with you, and arming you with an arsenal of powerful marketing tools so you can reach your goals faster and more skillfully.

Got a Technical Background? No Problem.

My expertise builds on years of experience in high-tech. That's why I think you'll find that Seattle Resume Writer understands information technology (IT) better than the competition.

I have written resumes for techies including: aerospace, mechanical and industrial engineers; software engineers, analysts and developers; network and database administrators; IT managers, program managers and business executives; voice and data communications technicians and engineers; testing and quality assurance (QA) engineers; technical support, help desk, and product specialists; graphic designers, art directors, producers, and Web developers; technical writers, technical editors and usability engineers; and more.

Not every typist with a resume service (not even the certified pro) knows the difference between a UNIX and a dot matrix, an A+ certification and a C++ program, or between CRM and a CD-ROM. But you can count on me to decipher your acronyms and ask intelligent questions.

Every profession is technical in its own way, with a distinctive vocabulary and "inside baseball" sorts of information about what hiring managers are looking for. That's why I stay abreast of a wide variety of industry trends and technological advances, and keep my finger on the pulse of discussions of hiring preferences among human resources managers and executives.

My Process Makes It Easy

The first step: give me a call at (206) 276-4473 for a free telephone consultation and to get an immediate price estimate over the phone. You can also send me an electronic copy of your resume and cover letter (if you have them) by E-mail at jperez@gmail.com and I'll give you a custom quote.

All resume services are given a custom price quote based on the length of your experience, how many jobs you've had, and the complexity of the assignment. Most of my Resume + Cover Letter packages for professionals with 0 to 10 years of experience cost between $350 and $400; packages for professionals with 10 to 20 years of experience cost between $450 and $600. Resume + Cover Letter packages for Executives with 20+ years of experience are typically priced at $600 to $750. LinkedIn Profiles are ofered for an additional $150 including posting the profile online, or $80 for post-it-yourself Profiles.

NOTE FOR JULY 8, 2014: SUMMER SAVINGS. For a limited time, Resume + Cover Letter packages are available for only $400 for all clients including Executive Resumes. LinkedIn Profile writing is available for an additional $100.

How long does it take to get your completed resume and cover letter? A typical process takes at least 3 to 5 business days from the time of the interview. Rush service (completion within 24 to 48 hours) may be available for an additional $100 fee.

One standard cover letter is included in every service package I quote (our experience is that our clients get better results when I write the cover letters, and we want the best experience for you for your investment). If your cover letter needs are unusually complex involving more than one page (occasionally I have seen this!) then your quote will be adjusted accordingly. I've also written reference sheets, thank-you letters, and done file conversions in Word, PDF, and ASCII text formats for clients.

My ASCII conversions are good (they make sure your resume doesn't look garbled and hard to read when it's visually inspected). I give you one version to use for E-mails and a second to use for Web forms. They take more time than you would expect, so I charge an extra $20 per set of documents if you prefer to have me do them for you.

Once you accept the custom quote, I'll send you the special career questionnaire that you are invited to complete and return. The questionnaire is optional so long as we have an in-depth interview. My questions go beyond your work history and invite you to reflect on your short-term and long-term career goals, plus your sense of your distinctive value to employers. Then we'll schedule an interview in-person (Seattle) or over the phone.

At the interview, I'll show you samples of my work, and explain how the design choices I made gave the job candidate key advantages.

When I'm done, I'll provide you with a proof to review. You'll review the resume proof and together we proofread it and make any necessary revisions.

Seattle Resume Writer's fees reflect my credentials, expertise, and the high level of service that I offer. My price quotes reflect hours spent in interviews, document production, template design, strategy development, project management, writing, copyediting, proofreading, client proof review meetings, and one round of revisions. I aim not only for your satisfaction, but also to offer you a strong value .

With "big box" editorial services offered by the major Internet jobs boards, you may not get the same personal attention, demonstrated expertise, or depth of experience, but you'll pay just as much or more. They are also unlikely to offer you the option of meeting in-person with a local resume writer for the information-gathering interview.

And if you've already tried the "super cheap, one hour resume" services advertised by those omnipresent Google ads, I'll be happy to fix your resume.

Few professional services for individuals have the potential for such a high return on investment. If you are out of work and the resume I prepared together helps you get back to work only one week faster, then I'll have saved you many hundreds of dollars. If you are presently working and your new resume helps you land a job that pays 10% greater salary, your ROI will be substantial.

Visit my blog, Seattle Career Blog, for regular updates regarding the Seattle job market and job search strategy tips.

Don't make the disasterous mistake of replying to an ad for your dream job with a resume that screams, "I'll work for peanuts," when you could send one that reads like it was written by someone making thousands of dollars more than you're making right now.

If the resume gives you a competitive edge in applying for the graduate program of your dreams, you will not regret your investment for a second. If my career management guidance helps you to turn a dead-end job that makes you miserable into one that is enlivening, the value is priceless.

I've composed my own resume before. Do I really need a professional's help in writing, editing, and proofreading my resume?
